In a four-page written order, the Florida Supreme Court today affirmed a referee's recommendation to permanently disbar controversial Miami attorney Jack Thompson. And after reading the article, all I saw in my head was the Joker in The Dark Knight going "Here. We. Go.".
The action, which takes effect in 30 days, means that Thompson will no longer be licensed to practice law and may not apply for reinstatement. Ever.
For some reason, I don't think this is the last we'll be hearing from Mr. Thompson. He just won't have the legal clout to back his idiocy up any longer. Essentially, he becomes like the rest of us on the Internet, no laws to hold his vitriol back. Not that he followed any laws in the first place.
It won't stop him. But it will allow his many critics to refer him him as 'disgraced attorney Jack Thompson' and generally reinforce public opinion of him as an unhinged nut. I further predict that this will have no effect on his appearances on Fox News.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know whether to laugh or cry about this guy. Probably both. Yeesh. He's the epitome of the adage that any media attention is good, no matter how bad.
ReplyDeleteWhen you hear a reasonable argument you disagree with, then respond with a reasonable argument of your own. But why respond to fools? If you hear nonsense, just ignore it.
ReplyDeleteThompson would have disappeared from public view years ago if so many bloggers and journalists didn't feel the need to reply to absolutely every comment they hear. It's vocal Thompson haters who are responsible for making him a celebrity.
Aaron, there is only one thing worse than telling people you are going to take away their Internets. And that is to tell them you are going to take away their Internet games.
ReplyDeleteJack Thompson wrung the honest gamer through the mud and believe me, we ignored him plenty and it did no good. Some big-time trolls just have to eventually be fought against.
